I has none of the pretension of the WNC food scene — no high concept menus, no matching decor, just a kitchen, cash register, some benches and the food. Food is ordered at the counter, menu a dry erase board. Speaking Spanish certainly helps, but it hasn’t been a requirement during any of my visits. I do my best out of respect for the environment and the culture behind the food.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>The presentation of this dish was minimalist in the extreme. 2-3 small sticks of fish crowned with some pickled red onions. Restraint with ingredients isn’t inherently a bad thing, but when you go minimal, the flavors that remain need to absolutely shine. If that was the goal here, the chef missed the mark entirely. The fish used in tacos is naturally very mild, but it was largely unseasoned, both in the fish and the breading. Inexplicably, the onions added nothing, which I wouldn’t have thought was possible. The provided salsa and mayonnaise were equally mild and unremarkable, and the rice was a frozen mix, adding nothing. The most flavorful component of the dish was the tortilla, which was nearly overpowering in the context. All told, this was the worst taco I have ever had, even those made at home with bagged spice mix has more flavor.</image:caption>

In this case, it’s a variation on a classic, a dressed burger with bacon, Gruyere, caramelized onions, and a BBQ-style steak sauce.</image:caption>

I did notice, however, the portions were smaller than is typical for a bar-like establishment, which could be viewed as generally a good thing. American portion sizes are far too large. Drinks were in the range of $7-$8, and there was an enormous variety of ciders and even some entries into mixed drinks. Exploring them all would be the effort of several visits. Final Verdict If cider is your drink of choice, then there are few places better. Bold Rock is an established brand, and there is enough variety to please even the die-hard beer lover. The food is fine. In the spread of WNC food truck bar food, Bold Rock is very much in the middle of the pack. You likely will not find a new favorite food here, but you can get a solid meal here with enough variety to please any finicky eaters you know. Overall, Bold Rock Mills River Cidery is very much in the vein of Asheville-area breweries with a twist: cider instead of beer. It is open, both inside and out, and there is room for kids and pets. Not unique, but a decent diversion from the formula if you’re getting tired of the same old thing.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>There is very little to recommend Molka-GT in terms of location. It is in the parking lot of an unassuming/kind of sketchy car lot in south Hendersonville, but in this case, it adds to the experience. Subject to the unpredictable weather of WNC, sometimes it is just inconvenient to get to. Outside seating consists of park benches. Overall, the truck makes little attempt to be inviting, though they did recently add triple-sized umbrellas that help with the sun but not the heat. That said, if you're heading to south Hendersonville expecting Michelin-star ambiance, you might be a little lost. Try Biltmore if you want that world. Molka-GT is exactly what it claims to be: a roadside taco stand with amazing food. The Food Dish One: Birria Tacos with Consommé A friend of mine whose opinion I respect more than he realizes once described tacos as the essential dish of Mexican cuisine. I suppose he is basically correct. If you are looking to maximize the volume of the food you eat, the beans and rice in burritos, tortas, gorditas, etc. may be a better option, but the taco contains the essence of flavor. A bit of onion, cilantro and squeeze of lime, and there it is. At Molka-GT, the taco is as simple as can be. They’ll ask you if you want cheese, but they also make it clear that without is traditional. It comes with a Styrofoam cup of a broth with onions and cilantro for dipping.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Reviews - Papas and Beer: A Chain that Doesn’t Feel Like a Chain - Initially, the Molcajete Burrito seems standard fare for the Cali-Mex restaurant, a forearm-sized burrito smothered in cheese and sauce. That being said, altogether the dish doesn’t really work all on its own. While the meat inside is excellent -well seasoned and tender - the rest of the ensemble is off key. The beans inside are properly cooked -retaining their shape while tender - but almost entirely unseasoned. The sauce is flavorful, but not an inspired sauce. Finally, the whole thing disintegrated into a soggy mess within minutes, which may or may not be your thing.</image:title>

      <image:caption>Much like the above, it arrives as a veritable log of filling covered in cheese and red sauce. Inside is also basically the same, though the meat is not quite as flavorful as the beef in the other burrito. No beans, but there are onions and peppers in small quantities. The red sauce tasted basically like canned red enchilada sauce; there’s not much more I can say about it.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>This dish was the surprising star of the meal. I usually don’t go for the enchiladas because I generally don’t love the sauce, but I was intrigued by the seafood aspect, and I needed to try something different for this article. The presentation is pleasing; the color of the plate contrasts with the white of the cheese and the green of the guacamole, and the balance of the plate is enhanced by the cup of beans across from the rice. Perhaps the most impressive thing about the dish was that the shrimp was not terribly overcooked, which is usually the case even in good restaurants. Seafood is delicate, and it can be very easy to mess it up. It’s chopped, which is an unusual choice but makes for a more consistent bite throughout the meal. The rest of the filling is sauteed onions and very small pieces of de-seeded jalapenos. The sauce inside is a delicate cilantro-heavy white sauce that works really well with the shrimp. All told, a very surprising dish. The beans on the side were cooked correctly, but again, somewhat unseasoned. You can taste the onion, cilantro, and tomatoes, but it could use more salt to bring out the flavor.</image:caption>
